Navigating the Graduate School Application Process? Insights from Fletcher Lab Members!

Graduate school is a thrilling and amazing experience, but also a stressful one. It is a time in your life when rather than entering the workforce, you instead actively choose to learn and gain new skills, investing in yourself and your future. As three current PhD students in Dr. Sarah Fletcher’s lab, we wanted to compile our thoughts on navigating the graduate school application process, which we will walk through by way of a blog post series available on the Fletcher Lab website. Having gone through this thorny decision-making process ourselves, we realize that it is not a straightforward and transparent process. We hope that by sharing our advice and experiences, we can help future students, such as you, the reader of this post, navigate the graduate school application process.

While we discuss more than just the PhD application process, this blog post series will mainly be focused on applying to PhD programs. We have divided this blog post series into three parts, which will be posted as separate blog posts over the next few weeks: (1) identifying what you want out of graduate school, (2) reaching out to faculty members, and (3) the graduate school application, which includes a general timeline to help guide you through the application process.

We hope our series of blog posts on navigating the graduate school application process are helpful to you!
